Grand Rapids in the spring: cold but beautiful! Tori and I enjoyed the sunshine despite the frigid breezes as we gallivanted all over downtown GR for her senior session. The downtown atmosphere was important to Tori--as well as her musicianship, Calder plaza, and other significant GR landmarks. She let me know it was a big piece of who she is and she wanted that to shine in her senior portraits.

If it is at all possible, I highly recommend you get away with your beautiful and fun best friend to a bed and breakfast in Traverse City for the weekend, enjoy delicious scones and fresh walleye, wander around the city's riverbanks, and scout out the venues (The Parlor in TC) you will be photographing for upcoming fall weddings.

My husband's point of view...

Recently, I realized that I haven't had any artist portraits done for my solo music project, Ida's Rope, in a very, very long time. Years, in fact. It's funny, how the plumber's pipes leak. Because I needed some new photos for my bio in the upcoming Ladyfest 2016 lineup in Grand Rapids, I had to work fast.

My husband Ben, also my second shooter, snapped these shots for me, and I loved the way they turned out. I'm drawn to the shadows, imperfections, and real places in this world, and I'm glad that is communicated in these portraits.

First Wedding of Spring Is Coming Soon!

I'm so, so excited for the spring to come--from melting snow and tree buds, to the promise of mild temperatures and of course, the first wedding of 2016!

I can't wait to photograph Pete and Kelli as they embark on a new adventure together in Grand Rapids, Michigan this May...the lovely ring above belongs to the bride to be, and in just two months they'll be vowing to treasure each other forever as I capture their special day with my camera.

This precious little man was as happy as could be when I joined him and his loving parents at their home for a cozy six-month portrait session! Big smiles, piercing blue eyes, and bright red hair--I guess you could say that stealing hearts might be Cedric's hobby. ;)

Food for Thought: April {Personal Session}

I was so pleased to help April with a personal and professional session that reflected her awesome, vibrant personality! April is a nutritional mastermind and a registered dietitian who also happens to be dabbling in brain research at the moment! She has graced TedTalks and countless platforms in her time to speak about the importance of healing foods and healthy emotional attitudes towards the things we eat. The day April and I met up for portraits, it was a dark and dreary December day--full of rain and not a drop of snow. In fact, we had to visit a ski hill with *gasp* FAKE snow for the white stuff! Unheard of for a December in Michigan. ;)

Still, I loved the dark foggy vibe that came from our outdoor play that day. And April's great smile!

There was an awesome energy and a packed house at Unruly Brewing for Old Black's release party on November 28, 2015. I was glad to be a part of things and capture some moments from Old Black's set, as well at THEM TEETH and Beast in the Field!
